A pop up dinner in the ZGM Fine Arts Gallery will feature food from Pure Peru. The Peruvian Dinner Buffet will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 1045 Elmwood Ave., in Buffalo. The dinner runs from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for students and $15 for children.
The dinner’s appetizers include ceviche mixto (assorted seafood, such as octopus, shrimp and scallops with lime, chile and more), causa de pollo (yellow potatoes with Peruvian style chicken salad), causa vegetariana, salsa huancaina (a spicy cheese sauce dip) and papa rellena (stuffed potatoes). Main courses will consist of carapulcra (Peruvian meat and potato stew), aji de gallina (spicy chicken), seco de carne (cilantro beef stew), seco de tofu, Peruvian white beans, lomo saltado (sliced beef, hot chiles and potatoes), cau cau (tripe stew) and escabeche de tilapia (fish with vegetables). For dessert, sample purple pudding (a Peruvian sweet made with purple corn, fruit and more), lúcuma caramel (lúcuma is a subtropical fruit native to the Andean valleys of Peru) and suspiro limeno (a custard-like bottom topped with meringue).
Chef Martha Sosa has been living in Buffalo since 2008 and her small food catering business, Pure Peru, has been gaining a following in the area. She operates her catering out of West Side Bazaar’s kitchen, which is located at 25 Grant St., in Buffalo. Chef Sosa also operates a small Peruvian boutique on Amherst Street called Pure Peru.
Consider this for next week’s Saturday night dinner and enjoy Peru’s cuisine without leaving Buffalo.
