City Dining Cards
City Dining Cards is celebrating its third year in Buffalo. Each lovely little deck of cards is part coupon/part gift certificate and all savings. I’ve enjoyed the benefits of the cards the past two years, as I have been using them — and giving them as gifts — since their inception. Last year, I purchased my deck as part of a fundraiser for Junior League of Buffalo.
Each deck of City Dining Cards contains 50 $10 discount cards with savings to locally owned restaurants. Each gives the bearer $10 off a food bill of $30 or more (tax, tip and alcohol not included). Restaurants include favorites such as Carmelo’s, Falafel Bar, The Roycroft Inn, Sample and Vera Pizzeria. The cards show the neighborhood in which the restaurant is located (City, Southtowns, Northtowns, etc.) to make it easy for diners to choose a place to eat based on location. Two wildcards hidden in the deck offer freebies at Caffe Aroma, and a large pizza at Delta Sonic Brick Oven, which alone is valued at $10, worth half the cost of the deck itself.
City Dining Cards Buffalo offers a second deck of cards geared toward bar goers and the happy hour crowd. The Cocktail Edition cards are revamped from last year’s deck. Each card is good for one free drink (of equal or lesser value) with purchase of a drink. Popular bars featured include Colter Bay, Encore, Essex St. Pub, Liberty Hound and Trattoria Aroma. Paula’s Donuts is one of the wildcards and offers card bearers a free doughnut.
Amazingly, the decks pay for themselves after two uses. City Dining Cards will donate 5% of all sales of the Buffalo decks to The Food Bank of Western New York, the primary hunger relief organization in Western New York.
Each deck of City Dining Cards costs $20 and can be purchased online at www.citydiningcards.com and Western New York retailers including Premier Gourmet, Spoiled Rotten and Valu Home Centers. Cards are valid now through December 31, 2013.
We’re giving away decks of City Dining Cards periodically throughout the winter. Our first contest will take place today as part of Cyber Monday. To enter, simply leave a comment on this article about your favorite restaurant or retweet any tweet about the contest from @buffalofoodie via Twitter. You will be contacted following the drawing to claim your prize. Winners will be drawn via a randomizer on random.org. Note that those outside of WNY are eligible to play if they wish, but the prize must be shipped to a WNY address.
